Hawaii National Parks

The Pacific islands forming the State of Hawaii are home to several National Parks including the Volcanoes National Park home of active volcanoes: Kilauea and Mauana Loa. The Hawaiian islands are the the product of constant eruptions steam, lava an ash that continue to expand the land. Most of the islands are not under the daily threat of eruptions and have been quiet for centuries. History is preserved in several of the parks. The World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument chronicles and preserves the site of the 1941 Japanese attack upon The United States Naval Base located at Peaarl Harbor on the island of Oahu. The Memorial site includes a pavillion set atop the sunken battleship USS Arizona where the remains of over one thousand sailors are entombed in the ship.

Access to the Monument is by car from Highway H-1. While on H-1, look for exit 15A, marked "Arizona Mem./Stadium". Do not follow signs for Hickam AFB / Pearl Harbor as this leads to the acive military bases here. The Visitors center has shuttles to the are a attractions. Plane links are through Honolulu International Airport. Oahu's bus service is provided by the bus. Bus # 20 and Bus # 42 will take you to the Pearl Harbor Visitor's Center.

Access: This Park is located on the Island of Maui and is best visited through Kahului. Plane service is available through Kahului Airport on Hawaiian Airlines. Car rentals are available. No Bus service is available. Access is on Highway Routes 37 to 377 to 378 to the mountain Visitors Center. THe coastal visitor's Center is located at Kipahul and is accessed by Routes 36 to 360.
